An interdisciplinary project documenting the oral history of Bucharest’s clubbing and leisure culture, Retro Rec takes an exploratory approach to the past 60 years. It draws from the real-life stories of six city residents - spanning generations and experiences - to reconstruct and reinterpret the rhythmic history of the capital’s neighbourhoods. The installation creatively repurposes vintage audio equipment to craft a sonic experience that mirrors the city’s evolving social and cultural landscape.
The visual identity echoes this concept. A retro color palette and font combination, alongside six characters inspired by analog audio devices, are featured across print and digital materials. This flexible, modular system allows for varied layouts tailored to the specific needs of each output.
Retro Rec and Rhythms & Crowds are two distinct yet interconnected projects within the same artistic endeavor. Each subtly nods to the other through a shared visual language.
